◯ About the Yumeji Art Museum
The Yumeji Art Museum introduces the great artist Yumeji Takehisa who was born in Okayama.
There are the Yumeji Art Museum - Honkan in Okayama-shi and also the Yumeji Art Museum - Bunkan in Setouchi-shi where Yumeji was born.
The Yumeji Art Museum - Honkan leads you to enjoy Yumeji's various works. In addition, the Yumeji Art Museum - Bunkan leads you to enjoy the nature of the hometown that cultivated Yumeji’s art. After visiting both the Yumeji Art Museum - Honkan and the Yumeji Art Museum - Bunkan, you can more deeply appreciate the art of Yumeji Takehisa.
The Yumeji Art Museum was founded based on the museum law consisting of the “Yumeji Art Museum - Honkan” and the “Yumeji Art Museum - Bunkan: Yumeji Seiika and Syonen Sansou”. The Yumeji Art Museum is a private museum administered by the Ryobi Bunka Shinko Foundation.
The Yumeji Art Museum - Honkan is grateful for the Michelin Guide Star awarded in 2007.
In 2009, we will hold memorial events to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Takehisa Yumeji's birth.

◯ History of the Yumeji Art Museum
1966(昭和41)年
The Yumeji Art Museum was inaugurated in Saidaiji, Okayama.
1970(昭和45)年
The birthplace of Yumeji Takehisa was reconstructed and the museum of the "Yumeji Seika" was established in Honjyo, Oku-cho, Setouchi-shi.
1979(昭和54)年
The Yumeji Art Museum was registered as an official art museum.
The area around the "Yumeji Seika" was established as a park. On the 95th anniversary of Yumeji Takehisa's birth, the "Syonen Sanso" with the studio was reconstructed and opened.
1984(昭和59年)
On the 100th anniversary of Yumeji Takehisa’s birth, the new Honkan was built and opened in Hama, Okayama-shi. Also, the Yumeji Seika and the Syonen Sanso were also opened as the Bunkan.
1985(昭和60年)
The Yumeji Art Museum collection and exhibition of the works of this native district artist were awarded the "Suntory Chiiki Bunka Prize (Suntory Regional and Cultural Prize)" which was received for the first time in Okayama.
◯ Collection
The museum collection stores a total of about 2000 pieces of Yumeji’s works, including not only paintings such as “Tatsuta-Hime”, "Aki no Ikoi", and "Kamogawa", but also magazines, illustrations, and poetry and prose.
