Yumeji Art Museum - Honkan

In 1984, the Yumeji Art Museum - Honkan was opened to commemorate the centennial of Yumeji Takehisa's birth near the renowned Okayama Korakuen.

One part of the Yumeji Art Museum - Honkan is covered with white walls and Namako-kabe (walls covered with square tiles and jointed with raised plaster) and the other part of the Honkan is built with red bricks. An elegant harmony combines Japanese and Western styles with a weathercock standing on top of the roof.

Approximately 2000 pieces of Yumeji Takehisa's works and materials are stored in the Yumeji Art Museum - Honkan. For instance, there are hanging scrolls, Byoubu (folding screens), prints, oil and watercolor paintings, sketches, books written and designed by Yumeji, covers of musical scores, and letters. In the Yumeji Art Museum - Honkan, about 100 pieces of Yumeji's works are always exhibited. In the exhibition, please take note of Yumeji's works and extensive writing activities. Additionally, special exhibitions that introduce various genres of Yumeji's art are held several times a year.

The Yumeji Art Museum - Honkan is grateful for the Michelin Guide Star awarded in 2007.

In 2009, we held memorial events to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Takehisa Yumeji's birth.

◯ Closed: Mondays except national holidays
(When a national holiday falls on Monday, the Museum is open Monday and closed the following day.)

-- Streetcar: Take the streetcar from Okayama-ekimae bound for [Higashiyama] for about 5 minutes and get off at the Shiroshita stop, and then walk for 15 minutes from the Shiroshita stop
-- Bus: Take the bus from the JR Okayama-ekimae bus stop (Number 4) bound for [Fujiwaradanchi・Korakuen] (Okaden bus) for about 15 minutes and get off at the Hourai-bashi Bridge・Yumeji Art Museum-mae bus stop
